DEUTSCH

ENGLISH
The shape of the object is based on the floorplan of the Farnsworth House, built by Mies van der Rohe between 1945 and 1951 in Illinois. The Farnsworth House is elevated above the ground by about 60cm, welded to twelve stilts, and casts a shadow in this shape on the soil. “The Shadow” is a psychoanalytical term for the parts of the human psyche that are obscured in the dark.

The screen is interactive. One can turn it into shelter, or into a black board, open it up or close it off.

The psychoanalyist Carl Jung has used the shadow metaphor to explain that the more self-awareness the human mind gains the more clarity and transparence it will receive. Contrary, the less one knows about ones desires and motivations, the blacker the Shadow, described as an alternative version of the ego.

The objectified shadow of the Farnsworth House is my attempt to discuss the transparence of the world, of communication in the form of glass, and internet glass cables, of literal and metaphorical windows in- and outside the private, intimate space.
